For patients with known or sus­pect­ed famil­ial dis­or­ders, blood can be test­ed to help deter­mine the pres­ence of a spe­cif­ic genet­ic abnor­mal­i­ty. This can help in screen­ing fam­i­ly mem­bers as well as pro­vid­ing prog­nos­tic information.
