The Surgical Center of DuPage Medical Group Named One of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers by Newsweek

DOWN­ERS GROVE, Ill. — The Sur­gi­cal Cen­ter of DuPage Med­ical Group (DMG), a mul­ti-spe­cial­ty out­pa­tient facil­i­ty in Illi­nois that pro­vides access to sur­gi­cal care with­out requir­ing a hos­pi­tal stay, has earned a place­ment on Newsweek’s 2021 ​“Amer­i­c­as Best Ambu­la­to­ry Surgery Cen­ters” list. This inau­gur­al list fea­tures 400 of the nation’s best Ambu­la­to­ry Surgery Cen­ters (ASCs) in the 25 states with the high­est num­ber of ASCs. 

To cre­ate the list, Newsweek part­nered with Sta­tista — a sta­tis­tics por­tal and indus­try rank­ing provider — who con­duct­ed a study through a series of inde­pen­dent sur­veys. The Best Ambu­la­to­ry Surgery Cen­ters 2021 list high­lights the nation’s top ASCs based on qual­i­ty of care, per­for­mance data and peer rec­om­men­da­tions, rel­a­tive to in-state com­pe­ti­tion. Accord­ing to Newsweek, med­ical experts from all over the coun­try par­tic­i­pat­ed in the sur­veys, which were con­duct­ed between July and Sep­tem­ber 2020.

Sur­vey respon­dents were asked to rec­om­mend up to five ASCs in their home state or a state they were famil­iar with if their home state was not one of the 25 states. Respon­dents also ranked sev­er­al qual­i­ty vari­ables includ­ing the man­age­ment of patients and safe­ty mea­sures dur­ing the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic, wait times for appoint­ments, qual­i­ty of surgery prepa­ra­tions, qual­i­ty of sur­gi­cal care and qual­i­ty of fol­low-up care. 

Stud­ies have shown that ASCs offer high­er patient sat­is­fac­tion, low­er infec­tion rates and low­er costs for the patient when com­pared to the same sur­gi­cal pro­ce­dure per­formed in a hos­pi­tal set­ting. When in an ASC, patients also have a more inti­mate expe­ri­ence with their sur­geon than they typ­i­cal­ly would in a hos­pi­tal. At the Sur­gi­cal Cen­ter of DuPage Med­ical Group specif­i­cal­ly, the sur­gi­cal site infec­tion rate is less than one per­cent, which is sig­nif­i­cant­ly low­er than the indus­try stan­dard. The Sur­gi­cal Cen­ter of DuPage Med­ical Group also has an imme­di­ate use ster­il­iza­tion rate of zero per­cent, which means that every sur­gi­cal instru­ment is prop­er­ly ster­il­ized 100 per­cent of the time.
