DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — The Surgical Center of DuPage Medical Group (DMG), a multi-specialty outpatient facility in Illinois that provides access to surgical care without requiring a hospital stay, has earned a placement on Newsweek’s 2021 “Americas Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers” list. This inaugural list features 400 of the nation’s best Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) in the 25 states with the highest number of ASCs.
To create the list, Newsweek partnered with Statista — a statistics portal and industry ranking provider — who conducted a study through a series of independent surveys. The Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2021 list highlights the nation’s top ASCs based on quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations, relative to in-state competition. According to Newsweek, medical experts from all over the country participated in the surveys, which were conducted between July and September 2020.
Survey respondents were asked to recommend up to five ASCs in their home state or a state they were familiar with if their home state was not one of the 25 states. Respondents also ranked several quality variables including the management of patients and safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for appointments, quality of surgery preparations, quality of surgical care and quality of follow-up care.
Studies have shown that ASCs offer higher patient satisfaction, lower infection rates and lower costs for the patient when compared to the same surgical procedure performed in a hospital setting. When in an ASC, patients also have a more intimate experience with their surgeon than they typically would in a hospital. At the Surgical Center of DuPage Medical Group specifically, the surgical site infection rate is less than one percent, which is significantly lower than the industry standard. The Surgical Center of DuPage Medical Group also has an immediate use sterilization rate of zero percent, which means that every surgical instrument is properly sterilized 100 percent of the time.
“We’re honored to be named one of the best ambulatory surgery centers in Illinois by Newsweek,” said Steve Nelson, DMG Chief Executive Officer. “Patients want the best care possible, in an environment that makes them feel safe and well cared for. Our ASCs allow us to deliver patient-centric care because we have the ability to provide the right patient with the right surgical procedures in the right environment — which benefits the patient and the healthcare system as a whole.”
