DuPage Medical Group Performs First Endoscopic Microdiscectomy Procedure at Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC)

DuPage Med­ical Group (DMG), the largest inde­pen­dent, mul­ti-spe­cial­ty physi­cian group in Illi­nois, suc­cess­ful­ly per­formed their first endo­scop­ic microdis­cec­to­my pro­ce­dure to repair a her­ni­at­ed disc at their Ambu­la­to­ry Sur­gi­cal Cen­ter (ASC) in West­mont, Ill. 

The DuPage Med­ical Group Surgery Cen­ter West­mont facil­i­ty pro­vides patients access to lead­ing-edge out­pa­tient orthopaedic and spine surgery pro­ce­dures with­out requir­ing a hos­pi­tal stay. Lever­ag­ing tech­nol­o­gy to dri­ve inno­va­tion, DMG spine sur­geon, Dr. Ashish Patel, per­formed the first endo­scop­ic microdis­cec­to­my at the ASC, enabling his patient to safe­ly under­go surgery and return home just a few hours later. 

Patients under­go­ing endo­scop­ic microdis­cec­to­my pro­ce­dures to treat her­ni­at­ed discs can expe­ri­ence sev­er­al ben­e­fits. When oper­at­ing, Dr. Patel uses advanced tech­nol­o­gy and small­er inci­sions, giv­ing him increased visu­al­iza­tion to the spinal canal and nerves while min­i­miz­ing patients’ risk of mus­cle dam­age. After surgery, patients can safe­ly return home the same day.
