DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — Duly Health and Care is offering bivalent boosters to patients aged 12 and older who completed the COVID-19 vaccination series at least two months after their final dose.
“We are hopeful this booster will continue the decline of the COVID-19 omicron variant cases we have seen in Chicagoland – especially as we enter the flu season,” said Don Hoscheit, MD and Chief Medical Officer for Duly Health and Care.
The Illinois Department of Health (IDOH) is reporting 26,127 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 70 deaths since August 26, 2022, and has issued public health warnings about the rise in cases going into fall. The IDOH went on to state the bivalent boosters made by Moderna and Pfizer are expected to increase immune response to the virus and protect against severe COVID-19 health outcomes including hospitalization and death.
“These new vaccines are designed to offer added protection against the omicron variants we are seeing — which are now the dominant strain of the virus,” said Mia Taormina, MD, FACOI and infectious disease expert for Duly Health and Care. “For this reason, regardless of the primary vaccine received, we are recommending patients aged 12 and older be considered for a bivalent booster.”
