For Nurse Practitioner Samantha P., her journey in healthcare has come full circle. She returned to the same office where she was once a patient, working alongside Duly family medicine physician, Dr. Scott Love, who has been her primary care physician since she was just three months old.
Samantha and Dr. Love have a unique working relationship. Their story began long before Samantha’s career in medicine took shape, when her mother took her into Dr. Love’s office in a moment of urgent need.
“He was someone that fit her in right away when she was having a ‘freak-out mom moment.”
Impressed by Dr. Love’s care, Samantha’s mother then moved the entire family to his practice.
As she grew up, Samantha felt inspired to follow in the footsteps of the compassionate providers who cared for her, deciding to pursue a career as a family medicine nurse practitioner.
Determined to learn from the best, Samantha asked Dr. Love if she could shadow him for her clinical rotations. Without hesitation, he agreed, kickstarting their professional relationship. Samantha felt at home in the office, knowing many of the staff from her days as a patient. Samantha said it was great to “grow with them not only as a patient, but as a coworker.”
As Samantha advanced in her nursing career, Dr. Love became not only her mentor, but her colleague. She recalled the way he always puts his patients first, even if it meant squeezing them into an already packed schedule.
“As a doctor, he’s a very rare breed,” she shared. “He’s just brilliant. He not only knows a lot of information, but he’s really good at teaching that information.”
As a nurse practitioner, Samantha understands the value of long-term patient-provider relationships, believing that staying with the same primary care physician over the course of your life creates a continuity of care that leads to better outcomes.
This belief is reflected in her own family, as her children are also patients of Dr. Love, fostering a multigenerational relationship built on care, compassion, and trust.
“I told Dr. Love, ‘You can’t retire. What am I going to do?” Samantha joked. Samantha and Dr. Love have grown together through the years both professionally and personally. As a part of Dr. Love’s healthcare team, Samantha is proud to offer the same level of care that made her feel like family.
