5 Reasons to Combine Facial Plastic Surgeries

When you need more than one procedure, you may be able to get them all done at the same time.

You’ve decided to get plastic surgery on your face and you have several procedures on your to-do list. But with a full-time job, a packed social calendar, and a family to take care of, your schedule is a bit tight.

Fortunately, there’s a great way to get the procedures done without having to figure out which one to start with or having to sacrifice too much of your daily life: combining surgeries.

Getting more than one facial surgery done at the same time has become increasingly popular.

If you have multiple procedures on your list, combining them might be a great option. Here are five reasons why people are loving the multiple facial surgery combo:

1. It Is Highly Customizable.

One of the best parts about combining surgeries is that you can pick and choose to get a perfectly tailored combination.

Here are some common procedures:

  • A facelift improves visible signs of aging on the face and neck and makes you look younger. It involves removing excess fat, tightening facial muscles, and smoothing wrinkles.
  • A browlift (also called a forehead lift) helps correct a furrowed brow or a brow that looks heavy. It can help lift your eyebrows into a more natural position and smooth wrinkles across your forehead and between your eyes.
  • Blepharoplasty removes excess skin from your eyelid. It can be done on your upper lids to keep them from drooping or your lower lids to make them less puffy. You can have them both done at the same time.
  • A neck lift tightens your jawline and neck. It removes extra skin and fat from around your jawline to make it more defined and look youthful.
  • Nose reshaping (commonly called a nose job) alters the appearance of your nose by changing the size, shape, or proportions. While it’s often done for cosmetic purposes, it can also be performed for medical reasons. For example, a nose job can help treat breathing problems or correct damage from a nose injury.
  • Chin augmentation reshapes or enhances the appearance of your chin. It can be done by reshaping or moving bones in your jaw or it may involve an implant.

2. It Can Be a Major Time-Saver.

Rather than having to go several different days for surgeries (and then having to schedule multiple days of follow-up care), you can get everything out of the way in a single appointment. That means fewer days that you need to take off from work or weekends that you need to devote to surgery.

When it comes to recovery time, there’s a bit of a trade-off. Having several surgeries done at one time increases the number of surgery sites and can extend how long it takes your body to recover and may make recovery a little more intense. Healing after a few surgeries can take longer than healing from just one. However, since you only have one recovery period, the number of days you spend recovering is lower in the long run.

3. It Can Also Be a Money-Saver.

Since facial surgeries aren’t commonly covered by insurance, you usually have to pay for them completely out of pocket. That means that, if you combine procedures, you might have to loosen those purse strings at the beginning.

But if you’re willing to pay more up front, combining surgeries could save you money overall. Some of the major costs are facility fees and anesthesia (the medication used to put you to sleep or numb you so that you don’t feel the procedure). By getting multiple procedures done at once, you won’t have to keep paying the steep price of using the surgery facility and receiving anesthesia.

4. Combining Procedures Is Typically Safe.

Combining procedures might even reduce certain risks – especially when it comes to anesthesia.

While anesthesia is usually safe, it does come with risks. Being under general anesthesia, where you are unconscious during the surgery, puts you at risk for rare but serious complications, like nerve damage or a collapsed lung. When you combine surgeries, you only have to go under once. That’s fewer times you’re putting yourself at risk.

But there’s a slight catch. If you’re having more than one surgery, you’re going to be under anesthesia for a longer time – and the longer you’re under, the higher the risk for complications.

Talk to your provider so you can weigh the risks and benefits and determine which option is safer for you.

5. You Might Be Happier With the Results.

If you have a few areas on your face that you’re hoping to change, getting procedures done one at a time might make it feel like you’re not making much of a difference. But if you do a few procedures together, the results can feel a lot more transformative. You can get a whole picture, rather than just seeing little fixes here and there.

Why Stop at the Face?

Facial surgeries aren’t the only plastic surgeries that can be combined. Particularly popular is the mommy makeover,” which aims to reverse some of the effects of childbearing on a woman’s appearance. This combines procedures to address concerns like sagging breasts, excess skin on the abdomen, or stretched-out nipples.

There is also the daddy do-over,” which is the male equivalent of the mommy makeover. The daddy do-over combines procedures like tummy tucks, chest contouring, and gynecomastia (male breast reduction).

Your provider may or may not recommend combining these with facial surgeries – it depends on your needs and what’s safest for you.

And that goes for combining any type of surgery. Whether you want to get multiple procedures done on just your face or on your whole body, your provider will help you decide on the option that gets you the results you’re looking for in the safest way possible.
