The first sign of lice is usually itching. The egg (nits) are tiny, pearly-white, egg-shaped objects that stick tightly to the hair shaft. Lice are transmitted by direct contact or indirectly through contaminated combs and clothing. Treatment consists of a special cream rinse that is available at the pharmacy (Rid or Nix). Cream rinses kill the lice, but careful combing with a nit comb is necessary to remove the nits. If your child has lice or you suspect lice, call to speak with the nurse or make an office appointment.
